Thailand's Kaeng Krachan National Park to be proposed as new world heritage

BANGKOK, January 30 (TNA) - The Cabinet has resolved to propose the listing of the Kaeng Krachan National Park in Thailand's upper southern region as a new world heritage site under the supervision of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Thai Deputy Prime Minister Plodprasob Surasawasdi told journalists that the Cabinet's decision was made at its weekly meeting in Bangkok on Tuesday. Plodprasob said that the Thai government plans to submit its written nomination of the Kaeng Krachan National Park as a new world heritage site to the Paris-based UNESCO later this week. The Kaeng Krachan National Park is situated on a vast area of 9,000 square kilometres with natural features, namely lakes, waterfalls, caves and cliffs, covering Ya Plong and Kaeng Krachan in Petchaburi Province and Hua Hin in adjacent Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
