Thais make merit on King’s birthday

BANGKOK, December 5 (TNA) - Thousands of people across Thailand offered alms to Buddhist monks on Wednesday to mark His Majesty the King’s 85th birthday. In Bangkok, huge crowds dressed up in yellow took part in alms giving ceremony headed by Bangkok Governor Mom Rajawongse Sukhumbhand Paribatra. A larger event was held for over a thousand monks at the Phutthamonthon complex, Nakhon Pathom, where people wished the revered King good luck. Similar events were held too in the Northeast, including in Surin and Si Sa Ket provinces, where candle-lit ceremonies would be held this evening; while in the south, the Yala Islamic Committee organised a traditional Muslim dance to wish His Majesty good health.
