Two defense volunteers killed in bomb attack

PATTANI, Aug 1 (TNA) – Two defense volunteers were killed and four others were wounded in a roadside bombing in the violence-plagued province of Pattani. Six defense volunteers were patrolling on motorcycles when the bomb went off roadside in Mai Kaen district this morning. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has inspected the explosion site to gather evidence. In another bombing incident in the adjacent province of Narathiwat, two bombs were placed at two motorcycles, parked on the Sungai Kolok bypass road. No one was wounded in the incident. When officials arrived at the spot after receiving the report, one bomb had already exploded. The bomb disposal squad successfully used a high-pressure water gun to defuse the other bomb. After the inspection, the officials found that the first remote-controlled bomb, weighting five kilogrammes was hidden in an iron box, attached to the motorcycle. The second bomb, which was defused, weighs about 20 kilogrammes. According to an investigation, four unidentified men rode four motorcycles to the site. Two motorcycles were parked there and all of them left the scene on two motorcycles before the first bomb exploded ten minutes later. (TNA)
