Underworld-Linked Woman Journalist Held For Murder

By P.Vijian NEW DELHI, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Mumbai police on Friday arrested a woman journalist, alleged to be linked to the Indian underworld, in connection with the slaying of a senior crime reporter. The Mumbai-based journalist is suspected to have fed vital details to an underworld boss, believed to be the mastermind behind the murder of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey on 11th June. Dey, 56, an investigative journalist with MidDay, was gunned down by four assassins on motorcycles in broad daylight while returning to his mother's residence in Powai in the suburbs of Mumbai. Local media reported the woman had given Dey's motorcycle registration number and his residence address to India's most wanted gangster Chhota Rajan. Rajan's sharpshooters are suspected to have carried out the killing of Dey, who was known to have exposed Indian underworld crime activities in the past. No further details of the suspect, who is attached to a major English daily, was revealed, but she was arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), a tough anti-terror law. Following the June killing, Mumbai police arrested 11 suspects in connection with the crime that shocked media circles. --BERNAMA Malaysia
