UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECLINES

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the end of July of this year, the Labor and Social Welfare Services Agencies (LSWSAs) registered 37.5 thousand job seekers, of which 72.3% unemployed and remaining 27.7% were people employed but looking for a new or extra job. Compared to the same period a year ago, registered unemployment decreased by 11.3% and if compared to a month ago--by 6.7%. There are no major differences between registered unemployment by gender, with 52.6% of women. From January to July 2017, the LSWSAs have recorded 46.0 thousand people as newly unemployed and 9.0 thousand people as the hired on a new job. Due to inactivity of job search, 44.3 thousand people were deleted from the unemployment register. In the first seven months of this year against 2016, newly registered unemployment indicates a decline by 23.2 thousand people; similarly number of people who were hired on a new job decreased by 5.0 thousand and those who were removed from unemployment register because of inactivity declined by 13.1 thousand. From total registered unemployed nationwide, more than half or 59.1% account for young people aged 15-34. This rate was by 1.0 to 23.6 percentage points higher than the national average in Uvurkhangai, Dornogobi, Gobisumber, Tuv, Gobi-Altai, Uvs, Dundgobi, Dornod, Khovd, Selenge, Orkhon, Arkhangai and Umnugovi aimags.
