University Of M'sia Sarawak (Unimas), BSAU India Sign MoU On Academic, Research Collaboration

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), Feb 10 (Bernama) -- University of Malaysia, Sarawak (Unimas) and B.S. Abdur Rahman University (BSAU) of Chennai, India, today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote international academic and research cooperation. Unimas was represented by vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid and deputy vice-chancellor (research and innovation) Prof Dr Peter Songan at the signing, and BSAU by pro-chancellor Abdul Qadir A Rahman Buhari and vice-chancellor Dr P. Kanniapan. The MoU provides for both sides to cooperate in areas of institutional exchange between faculty, staff and student; organise forums, short-term courses and meetings on various research issues; and exchange information on teaching, students and research development. In his speech at the signing, Prof Dr Khairuddin said the MoU would establish a framework for cooperation in the fields of engineering, computer science and information technology. "With BSAU's strong emphasis on industrial exposure and linkages, both universities will benefit through technology transfer, and this will certainly play a pivotal role in meeting the manpower requirements for SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy)," he said. Abdul Qadir expressed BSAU's keenness to collaborate with Unimas which focuses its academic and research capacities strongly on Sarawak's development. Sarawak is located at east Malaysia. -- BERNAMA
