University Of Science, M'sia Seek Joint Programme With Saudi Arabian Varsities

GEORGE TOWN (Penang, Malaysia), Feb 14 (Bernama) -- University of Science, Malaysia (USM) plans to strengthen its relations with institutions of higher learning from Saudi Arabia through joint programmes. USM vice-chancellor Dr Omar Osman who is now in Saudi Arabia to firm up cooperation with universities there said he had met several interested representatives in the country. "The success of USM in offering a medical degree with an organisation in India could be expanded to interested parties in Saudi Arabia," he said in a statement here Tuesday. Omar said among those he met were the Sulaiman Alrajhi Colleges Trusty Board vice-chairman Dr Abdulrahman Sulaiman Al Rajhi who were briefed of a joint effort to offer Medical and Health Science programmes. "They were interested with the proposal made and will review options and mechanism beneficial to both parties," he said. During the visit, Omar also met the director of the Center for Higher Education Research and Studies (CHERS) of the Saudi Ministry of Higher Education Dr Abdulhalem A. Mazi to discuss various issues in both countries. Meanwhile, he said USM was also prepared to accept entry of Malaysian students staying in Saudi Arabia to pursue their education in the universities concerned. "We are assisting the embassy and the Malaysian Consul General's office there by providing information on higher education in Malaysia, especially at USM, to more than 2,000 Malaysians residing in Jeddah as well as the local community there," he said. -- BERNAMA
