Verification of tied employers, migrant workers in Thailand on progress
BANGKOK, September 7 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Labour will carry out an ongoing process on the official verification of relations between employers and migrant workers in the country within the next couple of weeks.
Permanent Secretary for Labour ML Pundarik Samiti told journalists on Thursday that he expected the process should be completed over the next two weeks, as nearly 20,000 employers and more than 87,000 of their registered migrant workers have not yet turned out for the official process.
ML Pundarik said, however, that 178,469 employers, or 92.24 per cent of a total of 193,918 of them who have reported for hiring migrant workers, and 710,228 migrant workers, or 91.97 per cent of a total of 772,270 of them who have been legally registered by their employers, have already turned out for the verification process so far, from August 8 to September 6, 2017.
According to the senior official, part of the registered migrant workers who have turned out for the ongoing verification process, or 19,390, have not passed the official verification due to various reasons, namely being employed after the June 23, 2017 dateline for this round, younger than 15 years old and older than 55 years old as of August 8, as well as working in banned businesses and holding passports with the tourist visa.
