Warning Of Heavy Rainfall In Sabah And Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 (Bernama) - Intermittent rain sometimes heavy is expected to occur in parts of Sabah and Sarawak (East Malaysia states) until Thursday and can cause flooding in low-lying areas. The Meteorological Department said the affected areas in Sabah are Kudat, Kota Marudu, Pitas, Sandakan, Kota Belud and Ranau while in Sarawak, the same is expected in Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan and Serian. Intermittent rain sometimes moderate is expected to occur in some areas in Kota Tinggi and Mersing in Johor (southern state in Peninsular Malaysia) and Rompin and Kuantan in Pahang (east coast state in Peninsular Malaysia) until Friday. The Meteorological Department also said rising sea levels are expected to occur on the East Coast of Peninsular until Thursday. Strong Northeast winds at 60kmh have been forecasted for some areas on the East Coast of Peninsular, Sabah and Sarawak, while the sea is expected to be rough as high as 5.5m. The sea off Langkawi, Perlis and northern Kedah is expected to be at 3.5m and dangerous to all coastal and marine activities. -- BERNAMA
