Warning Of More Rain, Floods In Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Intermittent and sometimes moderate rain
is expected to occur in parts of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor until
Friday and can cause flooding in low-lying areas.
The Meteorological Department said the affected areas in Kelantan are Kota
Baharu, Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Jeli,
Kuala Krai and Gua Musang while in Terengganu the areas are Besut, Setiu, Kuala
Terengganu, Hulu Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman.
Meanwhile in Pahang, the weather is expected to occur in Kuantan, Maran,
Pekan, Rompin, Temerloh, Jerantut, Lipis, Bera, Bentong, Raub and Cameron
Highlands while in Johor the areas are Mersing and Segamat.
Similar weather condition is expected to occur in Perlis, Kedah, Perak and
Penang starting Friday until Saturday.
The affected areas in Perlis are Kangar, Padang Besar and Arau; in Kedah,
Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Kota Setar, Pendang, Yan, Sik, Kuala Muda, Baling,
Kulim, Bandar Baharu and Langkawi; in Perak, the areas are Kerian, Larut,
Matang, Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar and Kinta; while in Penang the areas
are Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, Seberang Perai Selatan, Timur
Laut and Barat Daya.
Meanwhile, strong north-easterly winds with a speed of 60kmph and waves of
up to 5.5 metres occurring over the waters off Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang,
Johor Timur, Samui, Tioman, Bunguran, Condore, Reef North and Layang-Layang are
expected to persist until Wednesday.
It said the east coast of peninsular Malaysia is exposed to the danger of
rising sea level which is expected to persist until Saturday.
Strong wind condition and rough seas are posing a danger to coastal
activities and shipping including oilrig workers.
It said, strong north-easterly wind with a speed of 50-60 kmph and waves of
up to 4.5 metres are expected over the waters of Sarawak, Labuan, Sabah
(Pedalaman, Pantai Barat, Kudat and Sandakan), Reef South, Palawan and Sulu and
may persist until this Saturday.
