Woman falls to death on Airport Rail Link track

BANGKOK, June 19 (TNA) -- A 31-year-old woman fell to death on the track of Airport Rail Link at the Ban Thap Chang station this morning, causing the train service to be suspended. At about 7am the driver of an incoming electric train had to apply an emergency brake but to no avail when the woman suddenly fell and lay with her face down on the track. The train ran over her and killed her instantly. Consequently the Airport Rail Link service stopped at the Ban Thap Chang station. Its trains could run between Suvarnabhumi airport and the Lat Krabang station and between Hua Mak and Phaya Thai stations only. The full-length service resumed at 11.35am. Airport Rail Link has platform screen doors at the Suvarnabhumi station. More screen doors will be installed at seven other stations. An electronic auction will be organized on July 27 to find contractors for the installation estimated at 200 million baht. The work is expected to finish at another station in April next year. Later police identified the dead woman as Rosarin Plianla from Wiang Sa district of Nan province. A friend was quoted as saying that she worked as an accountant in Silom area and was six-month pregnant with an unborn son. The woman had been weak and often fainted. (TNA)
