Working Group To Monitor Issues On International Students

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- A working group, with the secretariat managed by the Home Ministry, will be set up to monitor issues concerning international students in the country. Home Ministry Secretary-General Mahmood Adam said the establishment of the working group was among the initiatives identified by the Student Passes Special Unit set up by the government on Oct 31, 2011 as an integrated move to tackle issues concerning foreign students in the country. "The Working Group Monitoring International Students (WGMIS) will meet every month to discuss the status of and issues on international students, identify action to improve and resolve the issues arising and to outline action to control and curb the abuse of passes by the international students," he said in a statement on Thursday. The Special Unit will comprise members from, among others, the Home Ministry, Police, Immigration Department, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Skills Development Department, Higher Education Ministry, and the Education Ministry.
