Zoo celebrates 51st birthday for hippo

BANGKOK, Sept 23 (TNA) -- Dusit Zoo in Bangkok this weekend hosts a 51st birthday party for a female hippopotamus, considered the most senior hippo and also most famous animal currently raising at the zoo. Several exciting funfares are offering to Mae Mali, including delicious vegetables in baskets, in which she is, of course, not hesitate to eat. Her nephew, Ma Kharm also enjoyed seen eating early Saturday. Students from several schools in Bangkok who visited the zoo amid a heavy rain did not waste time to sing a ‘Happy Birthday’ song to Mae Mali upon learning that today is her birthday anniversary. Deputy director of the zoo Sumet Kamolnoranart said although Mae Mali is 51-year-old, she is still strong except her movements are a bit slow. This is normal for aged animal. Mr Sumet said Dusit Zoo will organise several exciting activities for children visiting the zoo to join in celebrating Mae Mali’s birthday until Sunday. Arriving at the zoo from the Netherlands since she was only one-year-old, to date Mae Mali has given birth to 14 offsprings. (TNA)
