Guterres: My Visit To Iraq To Show Solidarity And Promote Hope For A Better Future For Iraq/ More

Baghdad / NINA / - The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, announced that his visit is to show solidarity and promote hope for a better future for Iraq.

 

 He said in a press

 conference: "I had fruitful meetings with Iraqi officials, presidencies and civil organizations, and we discussed Iraqi efforts for reform measures, fighting corruption, diversifying the economy, creating job opportunities for youth, and reducing unemployment."

 

Antonio Guterres confirmed: "The United States is fully prepared to support the electoral institutions in Iraq through the UNAMI mission."

 

 He explained: "We must guarantee human rights and democratic participation of citizens."

 

He added: "I affirm the United Nations' support for the Iraqis in restoring stability and achieving complete peace."

 

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, also saluted the efforts of the Iraqi government to return the displaced Iraqis from Al-Hol camp.

 

 He said: "The obligation to secure their return is still valid."

 

 He added: "I will also visit Erbil and encourage the Kurdistan Regional Government to work in an orderly manner regarding the budget and oil and gas laws."

 

Antonio Guterres stressed: "It is necessary to work together to ensure Iraq's right to obtain adequate water."

 

 He said: "Iraq faces many challenges, and there are many obstacles and political challenges to bring together the Iraqis, and their unification is necessary to prevent any foreign interference in the internal affairs."

 

 He added: "Water scarcity and climate change are other challenges."

 

Guterres stressed that: "The United Nations is working to support the Iraqis in finding a solution, and it cannot impose a solution on anyone, and it is time for the Iraqis to decide their future."

 

 He said: "The future of the UNAMI mission is related to our ongoing discussions with Iraq and the UN Security Council, and one day, in agreement with the Iraqi authorities, and when positive measures are achieved and its presence becomes unnecessary, the mission will begin to withdraw."

 

 He added: "There is a dialogue process in Kirkuk that enjoys full support from the United Nations, and we are fully confident in the existence of a solution and the ability of the local authorities in Kirkuk to achieve this."/ End
