KSrelief, UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Support People Affected by Crisis in Sudan with $9.16 Million

Riyadh, August 9, 2023, SPA – King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office yesterday reached an agreement, through videoconference, to support the regional emergency response to Sudan's population affected by the crisis, in response to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) humanitarian appeal for Sudan.
The agreement was reached by Royal Court Advisor and KSrelief Supervisor General Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah and British Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Andrew Mitchell.
Each of the two sides will contribute $4.58 million to ICRC, making it a total contribution of $9.16 million.
This financial contribution aims to provide life-saving support in the fields of health, protection and food security, and is a joint humanitarian response to the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Al Rabeeah said that the assistance provided by the Kingdom, through the KSrelief, to the Sudanese people attests to the keenness of the government of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to alleviate the impact of the current difficult crisis on the Sudanese, adding that it is yet another expression of the humanitarian role the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia plays around the world.
Mitchell expressed satisfaction with this joint project, which confirms the depth of humanitarian partnership between the two countries and has helped alleviate human suffering in several countries. He added that the joint efforts exerted by the two countries are bound to help the ICRC mitigate the suffering of the displaced people in Sudan, and expressed hope that the parties to the conflict will allow and facilitate the delivery of aid to those in need.
ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger said that this contribution will help the committee provide an impartial and neutral response to the victims of the crisis in Sudan, and enable the committee teams to respond quickly and effectively to the changing needs of the population. She stressed that this generous donation was made at the right time, especially that ICRC and many other international humanitarian organizations suffer from financial shortages due to the growing humanitarian needs worldwide.
This agreement is part of humanitarian and relief projects provided by the Kingdom, through the KSrelief, in cooperation with international humanitarian agencies with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people. It highlights the Kingdom's role in helping countries in times of crises.
