54 Kyrgyz truck drivers forced to stay in Iran: Foreign Ministry

Bishkek, Mar.6, 2020. /Kabar/. Currently, 54 Kyrgyz truck drivers are forced to stay in Iran because of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Abdrakhmanov said during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
He added Kyrgyzstanis are not yet able to cross the Iranian-Turkmen and Iranian-Azerbaijani borders to return in transit to Kyrgyzstan.
"From the date of appeal of drivers and representatives of the Kyrgyz companies of cargo carriers, the ministry and the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Tehran, Ashgabat and Baku have kept this issue under special control.
On Mar. 2 and 4, heads of diplomatic missions of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Russia, which are in our country, were invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meetings, they were presented with official notes of Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry, and a request for assistance in a positive direction in resolving the issue of the admission of Kyrgyz drivers and trucks for their return to Kyrgyzstan was voiced," Abdrakhmanov said.
He added work and consultations to resolve the issue are ongoing.
