Call To Malaysians To Inculcate Moderation

PETALING JAYA (Selangor, Malaysia), Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Malaysia must goes back to the origin of cultural strengthening through moderation that has been cultivated for centuries through interaction, said former diplomat Razali Ismail. He said the salient elements in the principle of moderation were espoused by Prime Minister Najib Razak when he introduced the Global Movement of Moderates concept at the United Nations General Assembly three years ago. "Ideally, we should compromise in the face of raging anger and intolerance," he said at the Premier Cultural Speech 2013 entitled 'Political Polemic: Threats Against Solidarity' organised by the Culture and Arts Department here, Thursday. Razali, 74, who is also Global Movement of Moderates Foundation chairman, said political polemic perpetrated through instigations and divisive actions could hinder progress towards integration of ideas and acceptance of differences. He said the power of social media had worsened polemic rapidly as opinions and information were at times accepted at face value. -- BERNAMA
