Celebration of Ak Kalpak Day in Kyrgyzstan to be restricted due to coronavirus

Bishkek, Mar.5, 2020. /Kabar/. The celebration of the Day of Ak Kalpak in Kyrgyzstan will be limited to actions in social networks and on television because of the coronavirus epidemic, Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of Kyrgyzstan Azamat Jamankulov told Kabar Agency. According to him, usually on this day a concert and other cultural events were organized. "This year we will not organize mass events. We will leave only those actions that are held in social networks and on television," he said. In addition, Minister Jamankulov recalled that the Republican Headquarters for Preventing Import and Further Spread of Coronavirus recommended all regions not to hold events aimed at mass gathering of people. On Mar. 5, Kyrgyzstan celebrates the Day of Ak Kalpak, a holiday in honour of the national male headdress of Kyrgyz- ak kalpak, established by Resolution of the Jogorku Kenesh (Kyrgyz Parliament) of June 29 2016 in order to preserve the significance of the national headdress.
