King Mutesa I's mosque to be restored by Turks

KAMPALA (A.A) - November 8, 2011 - Turkish philanthropists will restore a mosque which was built by Uganda's King Mutesa I in 1844. Nsimbi Ali Rajap, imam of the mosque, told AA on Tuesday that Islam religion was introduced to Uganda in 1840, adding that King Mutesa I chose Islam and had a mosque constructed in Kasubi district in 1844. However, the mosque suffered damage in time, said Rajap, adding that Turkish philanthropists met the expenses of the repair of the mosque, and it would soon be open again for prayers and Muslims. Rajap thanked Turkey and Turkish philanthropists for their efforts.
