Kyrgyzstan starts exporting potatoes and sheep to Uzbekistan

Bishkek, Mar.9, 2020. /Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan began exporting potatoes and sheep to Uzbekistan, President of the Kyrgyz Land Association of Exporters and Importers Lenara Niyazbekova told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency. According to her, potatoes have been exported to Uzbekistan since 2019 and sheep for breeding since 2020. "As is known, our potatoes have an unusual taste because of their natural characteristics," she said. Together with Jash Kairak Agro, we have started exporting potatoes to Uzbekistan for the first time," Niyazbekova added. The Association president noted at the same time, potato smuggling influences prices, she expressed hope that the relevant authorities will solve this problem. "For the first time in 30 years we have exported potatoes to Surkhandarya Region of Uzbekistan officially, with all the documents,” added Lenara Niyazbekova, and drew attention to the fact that work is being done within the Embassies to export potatoes to all regions of Uzbekistan. In addition, she said Uzbekistan currently exports sheep from Kyrgyzstan for breeding. "This will give Kyrgyzstan a positive image," the chairwoman of the Association noted. General Director of the Jash Kairak Agro (partner from Uzbekistan) Jorobek Nuraliyev said Uzbek authorities provide low-interest loans to farmers worth UZS 30 million (about US $3,000) to raise sheep. According to him, as part of that effort, they intend to import sheep from Kyrgyzstan.
