Lecturer, Student Win PM's 2013 Golden Hand Award
SERDANG (Selangor, Malaysia), Jan 24 (Bernama) -- A lecturer and a college student have won the Prime Minister Golden Hand Award 2013 in the Malaysian Skills Competition.
Electronics lecturer Muhamad Hazif Brahim, 30, from the Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC), Melaka and Muhammad Izzat Sulaiman from the Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara (KKTM), Rembau received the prestigious award from Prime Minister Najib Razak at a ceremony here Thursday.
With the win, they would represent Malaysia at the Asean Skills Competition (ASC) in Hanoi, Vietnam from Oct 19 to 29 and at the World Skills Competition (WSC) in Sao Paolo, Brazil from Aug 11 to 16 next year.
Muhammad Izzat, 20, who won in the Myskill category, said the award would inspire him to continue proving his abilities in the area of media digital design.
"I did not expect to win this award, what more to receive it from the prime minister. I will try harder to do the best, including giving the country a good name at the international level," he said.
Muhammad Hafiz, who won in the Malaysian Skills Competition (PKM) category, said he was disappointed that someone else went to receive his award when it was announced.
"I was very excited when my name was announced as winner but was shocked when someone else went to receive it.
"Although it was later given to me after the ceremony, the disappointment is still there," he said.
The PKM is an annual skills competition held to select and acknowledge skilled trainees with excellent skills.
It is open to youths and students who are 20 years and younger, except those in the fields of information network cabling and mechatronics (aged 23 and younger).
The My Skills competition is open to lecturers and teaching staff in public and private training institutes to evaluate the level of competency and upgrade it.
