M'sian Mountaineer Injured While Scaling Mt Aconcagua
PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 13 (Bernama) -- National mountaineer Siti Hanisah Sharuddin, who is currently on a mission to complete climbing up the world's seven highest peaks, was injured after a fall while ascending Mount Aconcagua in Argentina Tuesday.
Malaysian Seven Continents Exploration Club (KE7B) president, Muhamad Muqharabbin Mokhtarrudin said Siti Hanisah, 26, had to be brought down by helicopter before she was taken to hospital.
"However, I have not received a full report on her condition," he said, adding that Siti Hanisah's injuries would only be known Thursday after the X-ray results.
Muhamad Muqharabbin in a statement Wednesday expressed the hope that Malaysians would pray for Siti Hanisah's safety as well as her success in creating a record as Malaysia's first woman to climb the seven highest peaks on seven continents.
Siti Hanisah's participation in the mission dubbed KE7B Heroine of Seven Continents is being sponsored by IM4U (1Malaysia for Youth).
Siti Hanisah's previous feats include reaching the summits of the highest peaks in Africa, Europe and Australia namely Mt Kilimanjaro, Mt Elbrus and Mt Kosciuzco as well as Mt Everest (the highest mountain in Asia and the world).
She also holds the record for the youngest Malaysian Everest climber at age 23 in 2013.
Meanwhile, another climber from Malaysia's southern state of Johor, Mohd Khafiz Bachok who was accompanying Siti Hanisah during her ascent, reached the Aconcagua summit, the highest mountain on the South American continent at 6,962 metres above sea level.
