Naryn and Pargauya (Latvia) became twin cities

Three Kyrgyz municipalities signed protocols on mutual cooperation in the framework of the visit of the delegation of local governments of Kyrgyzstan to Latvia, organized by the Latvian Association of Local Governments and the Institute for Policy Development. Not only Naryn town of Kyrgyzstan became twin cities with Latvian municipalities, but also two municipalities: Zhazy in Osh oblast signed cooperation protocols with rural self-government of Rauna, and Kara-Oi in Issyk-Kul oblast - with the municipality of Amata, the Institute for Policy Development reported. Latvian municipalities have extensive experience in the development of local entrepreneurship. For example, in Amata, there are about 700 operating enterprises per 3000 inhabitants. Tourism and the processing industry are actively developing, unemployment is at a record low level in Latvia. A significant role in the development of business is played by local governments, creating the infrastructure, conditions for tourists, helping the marketing business in sale of products. The purpose of cooperation agreements is to organize the exchange of experience in social and economic development and the preservation of the natural environment. Joint projects on the development of public transport, tourism, trade, public catering are planned for implementation. The municipalities of the two countries plan to hold joint events to spread the national traditions of Kyrgyzstan and Latvia, popularize the cultural heritage of the two countries, as well as organize concert tours of amateur groups and exhibitions of applied folk art. The signing of protocols on cooperation took place on October 3 at Cesis Castle. During the visit, representatives of local governments and of state bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic were able to meet with the Prime Minister of Latvia, hold discussions with the Ministry of Finance, the Parliamentary Commission. Local governments of Kyrgyzstan and Latvia have long-standing friendly relations, which are actively maintained on both sides. From the Latvian side, Kyrgyzstan receives great assistance from the Latvian Association of Local Governments, and in Kyrgyzstan contacts are organized by the Institute for Policy Development.
