Singapore Sings For Frontliners & Migrant Workers, Displays Flag For Unity
By Massita Ahmad
SINGAPORE, April 26 (Bernama) – ‘Sing Together Singapore’, dubbed as the national karaoke session, took place here Saturday night as one of the ground-up initiatives to thank the frontliners, migrant workers and all who are doing their part in combating the COVID-19 spread in the republic.
At 7.55 pm Saturday, seven celebrities, namely Rahimah Rahim, Taufik Batisah, Shabir, Desmond Tan, Felicia Chin, Rebecca Lim and Vernetta Lopez sang the National Day Parade favourite, ‘Home’.
It was led by the song's composer Dick Lee, backed by the 900 members of the Voices of Singapore choir.
Residents at home were encouraged to participate by singing the song, waving a torchlight and posting a recording of themselves on social media.
Those selected may be included in a video compilation that will be broadcast on local TV at 10:30 pm.
“Do join in and sing your support!,” posted Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on his Facebook page earlier today to encourage the people to participate.
Meanwhile, all organisations and households may display the National Flag at their offices, building premises, and residential premises with immediate effect until the end of the National Day celebration period on Sept 30, 2020.
According to the republic’s Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) there have been a number of requests from members of the public to display the National Flag as a demonstration of unity and solidarity in the society despite being ‘physically apart’ from each other.
“It is also a call for us to work together and stand resilient in the face of a crisis like this,” said its minister, Grace Fu in a statement here.
