Sudan Celebrates 60th National Day With Joyful Traditional Performances

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- The Embassy of Sudan hosted a grand reception to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the country's National Day here Thursday night with captivating traditional dances and songs.
The two-hour event, hosted by Sudan's Ambassador to Malaysia, Khalid Abdelgadir Shukri, showcased lively traditional performances from the different regions in Sudan.
Some of the dances performed before about 400 guests were the 'Kampala', a dance from the Nubian Mountains in Southern Kourdofan, with moves reflecting the power and bravery of the men and joy and happiness of the women; and the Al-Arda, which originated from the heart of Sudan, Khartoum and usually performed during celebrations, weddings, national and cultural events.
Guests were served with various types of Sudanese signature dishes, including kabsah lamb and shish tawook.
Also present were Malaysian Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, as well as ambassadors and High Commissioners based in Malaysia. (photoBERNAMA)
