Participants In International On Climate Change And Human Rights Call For Using Technology To Limit Carbon Emissions

 
Doha, February 21 (QNA) - Participants in the first session of the International Conference on Climate Change and Human Rights called on Developing policies that protect against the repercussions of climate change and suit areas that suffer from floods and those threatened with drought, in addition to reducing emissions and providing safety from toxic substances, noting the impact of climate change on development in various countries. The participants, in the conference organized by the National Human Rights Committee in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the League of Arab States and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), stressed the need to develop the green economy and use technology to reduce carbon emissions, establish of the Green Fund for Environmental Protection, calling for the establishment of a legal framework that keeps pace with international developments to stop the suffering of many people around the world as a result of climate change and the resulting pollution and deterioration of environmental diversity. Advisor on Human Rights at UNDP Sarah Rattray said that climate change and the resulting deterioration in environmental diversity and pollution cause suffering to many people around the world, noting the impact of climate change on development in various countries, and the deep link between human rights and climate change, where the issue of justice lies at the heart of this issue. She stressed the importance of climate justice, and its role in promoting human rights, calling for the establishment of a legal framework that keeps pace with international developments, especially since more than 200 recommendations were issued related to the impact of climate change on human rights, and called on all countries to include the repercussions of climate change in their agenda. Director General of Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health Nidal Selim praised the measures taken since the mid 90s to combat climate change. He called for developing the green economy, using technology to reduce carbon emissions, and establishing the Green Fund for environmental protection, pointing out that living in an environment full of carbon emissions affects many poor people around the world, which calls for focusing decisions around people.
