PM Receives The WHO's Representative In Iraq

Baghdad (NINA) - ‏Prime Minister, Mohammed Al-Sudani, received today the World Health Organization Representative in Iraq, Ahmed Zouiten.

The media office of PM said that "‏During the meeting, they reviewed all aspects of cooperation in the healthcare sector between Iraq and the United Nations' special programs. They also discussed the progress achieved in this vital sector to meet the needs of Iraqi citizens.

‏The Prime Minister congratulated WHO on the 75th anniversary of its founding, stressing that its slogan of providing health for all corresponds to the Iraqi government program that placed the healthcare sector at the top of the government's priorities.

‏PM remarked that the government realizes the importance of providing healthcare services and endeavors to achieve that on several levels, including the adoption of programs of joint management of large hospitals following the most advanced methods of international institutions, in addition to completing stalling hospital projects, supporting specialized centers, and providing unprecedented budgets for the Ministry of Health in the federal budget and working on activating the national health insurance program.

‏For his part, Zouiten remarked that the organization had seen significant efforts from the Iraqi government in improving the healthcare sector, as evidenced by the fact that the Prime Minister's first field visits were to the hospitals.

‏The UN official commended the government's focus on primary healthcare and health security and confirmed that a team from WHO had agreed with a team from the Iraqi Ministry of Health to plan for the next seven years for the health sector to serve the interests of the Iraqi citizens and facilitates the achievement of sustainable development in the health services sector./ End
