BANGKOK, July 19 (TNA) -- Representatives from 20 countries take part in Thailand Consortium: Trade Control on Weapons of Mass Destruction related items 2017. As the Thai government is drafting laws on export control of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and dual-use items (DUI) which are expected to be effective in January 2018, the Commerce Ministry is hosting the conference is an attempt to exert control over the first process of WMD supply chain. Vice Minister for Commerce Winichai Jamjaeng said an effective way to prevent WMD proliferation was done by controlling raw materials and tools which may be used in supporting WMD or manufacturing of such weapons. In line with the United Nations Security Council's Resolution No 1540, Thailand worked with trade partners to monitor products or technologies which are normally used for civilian or commercial purposes, but can also be used as material for developing, producing or supporting WMD. The conference is held for the first time in Thailand between Tuesday and Wednesday in Bangkok. (TNA)
