20th anniversary of establishment of Azerbaijan-Turkey diplomatic ties marked in Baku

Baku, January 31 (AzerTAc). An event to mark the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey was held in the Turkish Embassy. The event brought together MPs, historians, Turkish businessmen and others. Opening the event, Ambassador Hulusi Kilic spoke of relationship between Azerbaijan and Turkey. He said Turkey was the first country to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. The ambassador noted Azerbaijan`s election as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council was a great success. The diplomat also noted Azerbaijan plays significant role in ensuring energy security of Europe. Kilic also highly appreciated the fact that Azerbaijan was the first country to send humanitarian aid to Turkey when earthquake happened in Van province, adding this demonstrates fraternal relations between the two countries. The Ambassador also said national leader Heydar Aliyev made great efforts to expand relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey and President Ilham Aliyev successfully continues his policy. Speaking at the event, member of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Gular Ahmadova condemned the bill criminalizing denial of the so-called Armenian genocide adopted by the French Senate, calling on the Turkic-speaking countries to support Turkey. Other MPs Jala Aliyeva, Musa Gasimli spoke of Turkey-Azerbaijan cultural ties.
