#4 THERMAL POWER STATION TO BE EXPANDED

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Capacity of the city's #4 thermal power station will be improved, and a turbine-generator of 100 MWt will be installed.
A cabinet meeting held on Saturday obliged M.Sonompil, the Minister of Energy; and N.Batbayar, the Minister of Economic Development to allot necessary money from the Developmental Bank of Mongolia (DBM) for these works and complete it in June of 2014. A course of the works will be reported to the cabinet every quarter.
The electricity consumption of the central region increased by 5-7 per cent by 2005-2011, and it is expected that this consumption will exceed the capability of all thermal power stations in winter's peak-times of 2012-2013, therefore Mongolia might lead to a situation to restrict the electricity consumption despite importing electricity from Russia by 2014-2015.
If construction works of the #5 thermal power station will start next year, it is projected that the first part of this station will put into use in 2016. A project of the #5 thermal power station is possible to be implemented in 18 months, and it has been calculated its cost will be about USD 70 million.
At the cabinet meeting, the Ministers discussed a matter on changing a place for the #5 thermal power station, and an order has been given to M.Sonompil to study the most proper places and to introduce it to the cabinet.
