BAN KI-MOON APRECIATES MONGOLIAN ACHIEVEMENTS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was satisfied with achievements of Mongolia since it joined the UN 50 years ago. It was said during a meeting held on Monday with the President of Mongolia at the forum of United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) in Qatar. The Mongolian President and the UN Secretary General reaffirmed that they are working under an agreement to open the International Think Thank for Developing Landlocked Countries in Ulaanbaatar. The President said Mongolia forwarded some proposals at the UN General Assembly session on education for democracy and intolerance of corruption within a chairmanship of the Community of Democracies (CD), and requested the UN Secretary-General to support Mongolia in realizing these works. He expressed a willingness to augment a number of Mongolians working at the UN. In response, Mr. Ban said he will pay attention to the request. “I am very glad that proposals initiated by You have been appreciated by state leaders of many countries. Your initiative about abolishing the misunderstanding through education is very important for us,” Mr. Ban stressed, and said again that he appreciates the Mongolian initiatives on global climate change. “We must not forget matters on climate change and energy resource. I am very confident that You will support any initiatives and make decision on the matters,” Mr. Ban added. The dignitaries shared views on widening of the Mongolia-UN cooperation in the peacekeeping operations and on rendering a technical assistance to Mongolia. B.Khuder
