Banner of National Independence Should Be Held Higher

Pyongyang, January 9 (KCNA) -- It is the stand of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government to write a new history of national reunification, holding high the banner of national independence. National independence is the fundamental principle to be adhered to in settling the affairs of the nation. A nation is responsible for its internal affairs and has the force to propel their settlement. The north-south relations are an internal affair of the Korean nation in any respect, a matter to be settled by the concerted efforts of the north and the south. There is no problem unsolvable if the Korean nation has the transparent view and stance and firm courage and self-confidence to solve the issue of the nation, the issue of reunification. To maintain national independence is a bitter lesson drawn from the long-standing history of national division. The outsiders who enforced division on the Korean nation never present the reunification to it. And they will never wish to see the Korean nation getting strong through reunification. The Korean nation's affair, the matter of reunification, can never be settled with any others' approval or help. The more complicated and acute the situation on the Korean Peninsula gets, the more firmly the Korean nation should adhere to the principle of independence in settling its internal affairs, the issue of national reunification. All compatriots in the north and the south of Korea and abroad should never allow outsiders' interference and tyranny to keep the Korean nation divided forever and dominate the Korean Peninsula and the region, but settle the national issue, the issue of reunification, in line with the independent demands of the nation on the principle of national self-determination. -0-
