CIS short-term observation mission for presidential elections arrives in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, October 7/Trend, S.Agayeva/ The CIS short-term observation mission for the Azerbaijani presidential elections led by the chairman of the Executive Committee - the organization's Executive Secretary Sergei Lebedev arrived in the country, the mission's headquarters told Trend on Monday. According to the headquarters, the head of the mission started his work on Monday morning. His work program includes: the study of the pre-election situation in the country, meeting with officials and presidential candidates. Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for October 9. The long-term observation mission of the CIS for presidential elections in Azerbaijan started its work on September 10 with the opening of the mission's headquarters. The two missions include nearly 300 observers representing Belarus, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, as well as the CIS Executive Committee. The CIS observation mission and its headquarters continue to observe the process of pre-election campaign. The presidential elections in Azerbaijan are held every five years. Azerbaijani citizens who have higher education, who have been permanently residing in the country for more than 10 years, who have not been convicted on a serious crime, not having any obligations to other states and those who do not have double citizenship are entitled to the right to be elected to the post of president of Azerbaijan.
