CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANIZATIONS HOLD MEETING WITH SCHOLARS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Representatives of civil society organizations held on Wednesday a meeting with professors Yoshihiro Francis Fukuyama, Larry Diamond and Stephen D.Krasner--democratic theory scholars from the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at the Stanford University. The meeting, chaired by Ch.Sosormaa, an advisor to the President on human rights and civil participation, two reports were delivered themed "Overview of tendency of civil society organizations" and "Role of civil society in countries developing democracy, its challenge" by D.Sukhjargalmaa, a voluntary expert, and by Larry Diamond. Ms Sukhjargalmaa spoke about a present situation of the civil society in Mongolia, its tendencies, collaboration between the state and civil society organizations, their financing. Prof Diamond focused on a legal environment in the USA for civil society, its independence from politics, ways of taking financing, and then agreed to cooperate with Mongolia in research. The meeting gathered representatives of various organizations and NGOs such as the Civil Education Center, the Civil Council of Health, the Association of Giving Advice to Health Organizations, the Union of the Disabled, the Mongolian Union of Men, the Civil Council of Environment, the National Center Combating against Disasters, the Human Rights Developmental Center, the Anti-Violence National Center, the Open society Forum, the United Association of Employers, the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and others.
