Dialog partner first meeting held in Jakarta
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A dialog partner meeting of Mongolia and the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) ran in ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia on May 30.
Present at the meeting were National Security and Policy Advisor to the President of Mongolia L.Purevdorj, Permanent representative of Mongolia to ASEAN Ts.Jambaldorj, Ambassador of Mongolia to Japan S.Khurelbaatar, ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh, and ERIA Executive Director Prof Hidetoshi Nishimura.
At the meeting, Mr Purevsuren presented to Prof Nishimura a letter from Mongolia’s President Ts.Elbegdorj, in which he wishes a success in this dialog partner first meeting and expresses a confidence in Mongolia’s becoming a dialogue partner of ASEAN, and a member state to ERIA.
Mr Purevsuren said that Mongolia would like to integrate with the economic linkages and grouping in the region. As part of East Asia, he pointed out that Mongolia is aspired to become a dialogue partner of ASEAN, a member of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation as well as East Asia Summit.
After introducing functions and recent activities of ERIA, Prof Nishimura expressed an interest to cooperate with Mongolia in regional energy, infrastructure projects.
The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia or ERIA is an international organization established in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2008 by a formal agreement among Leaders of 16 countries in the East Asian region to conduct research activities and make policy recommendations for further economic integration in the East Asia.
ERIA works very closely with both the ASEAN Secretariat and 16 Research Institutes to undertake and disseminate policy research under the three pillars, namely “Deepening Economic Integration”, ”Narrowing Development Gaps”, and “Sustainable Development” and provide analytical policy recommendations to Leaders and Ministers at their regional meetings. ERIA provides intellectual contributions to East Asian Community building and serves as a Sherpa international organization. ERIA ranks 28th among the world's "Top 50 International Economic Policy Think Tanks" (1st in ASEAN) according to the 2012 Global Go To Think Tanks Index Report conducted by University of Pennsylvania.
