FOREIGN MINISTER MEETS SECRETARY OF STATE REX TILLERSON

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil met United States Secretary of State Rex W.Tillerson on June 13, Tuesday, during his official visit to the country which wraps up today. The Mongolian Foreign Minister talked about how bilateral ties have been actively developing in political and defense spheres, while emphasizing on the importance of strengthening Mongolia-US relationship through increased trade and investment. He expressed readiness to work towards the implementation of Mongolia-US Transparency Agreement which entered into force this year and increasing US investment in Mongolia, encouraging American businesses to engage in. Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil also highlighted the importance of activating Mongolia-US people-to-people relations, cultural exchange and educational cooperation. In return, Secretary of State Tillerson expressed his pleasure at the Foreign Minister’s visit in the margins of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the US and Mongolia. He remarked upon Mongolia’s strategically important location, highlighting the significance of utilizing its advantage. He also appreciated Mongolia’s decision to continue its engagement in the ‘Resolute Support’ mission in Afghanistan. The sides exchanged views on regional and global affairs. Being the first Ministerial visit by Mongolia to the US since the establishment of new governments in both countries, Foreign Minister Ts.Munkh-Orgil’s official visit is considered highly important in familiarizing the new US administration with the Mongolian government’s foreign policy and priority actions, and determining a prospective outlook for bilateral relationship.
