Former PM fails to show up at court

BANGKOK, Aug 25 (TNA) - Former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra failed to show up at Supreme Court on Friday morning when a verdict in the a negligence trial is set to be delivered amid tightened security. Her lawyer cited the Meniere's disease and severe dizziness as the reason for her absence. However, the court did not believe the excuse and decided to issue an arrest warrant for fear the defendant would flee. The hearing is postponed to September 27. Ms Yingluck faces 10 years in prison if convicted of negligence in mismanaging a rice subsidy program during her administration, leading to the state’s multi-billion dollar loss. She has pleaded in the case, saying she was the victim of a "political game". (TNA)
