Gargash leads UAE delegation at Small Group Ministerial of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL

ROME, Italy, 3rd February 2016 (WAM) --- Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, yesterday led the UAE delegation at the Small Group Ministerial of the Global Coalition to Counter ISIL/Daesh in Rome on 2nd February. The meeting was convened in order to take stock of the Coalition actions and to discuss progress and challenges in the ongoing fight against Daesh. In his intervention at the Ministerial meeting, Dr Gargash reaffirmed the UAE's committed to the Coalition and the fight against extremism and terrorism, and noted that "although we are seeing some success in the battle against Daesh, the overall picture remains unfortunately alarming and complicated." Dr Gargash further cautioned that "basic issues that the UAE has articulated in previous meetings continue to thwart our progress against Daesh. Amongst these is the engagement of Sunnis in the Western part of Iraq, in order to isolate Daesh and create greater efficacy in confronting it."
