GEC: 544 CANDIDATES TO RUN IN PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ From the 11 political parties and two coalitions, 544 candidates including independents have been officially registered to run in the 2012 parliamentary election. It was reported on Wednesday the General Election Commission (GEC).
The all candidates have received the certificates. 354 of them are competing in 26 constituencies, and 190 candidates will run through proportional representation system. 26 candidates will compete independently as well.
As the gender ratio, 174 candidates are women, and there are three candidates aged above 70 years old. The youngest candidate is 26 years old.
Statistical report shows that the 2000 parliamentary election ran with the largest number of candidates. This election was participated by 13 political parties and three coalitions with 602 candidates. The 2008 parliamentary election was attended by the largest number of independent candidates or 45.
In accordance with the parliamentary election law, the GEC will release a list of all candidates in Thursday.
