IAEA DIVISION LEADER OSCAR ACUNA VISITS

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Chief of the Asia and Pacific Division of IAEA Department of Technical Cooperation Mr Oscar Acuna paid a working visit this week to Mongolia by invitation of N.Tegshbayar, a head of the Nuclear Energy Agency of Mongolia (NEA). Mr Acuna legged the Nuclear Research Center at the Mongolian State University (MSU), the Physics and Technology Institute at the Academy of Sciences, also the National Center of Oncology (NSO), the Veterinary Scientific Institute at the University of Agriculture, and the Central Laboratory for Veterinary Sanitation. Mr Acuna reported that the National Agency of Nuclear Safety at the US Department of Energy intends to realize a programme on changing the cobalt-60 radiation source which is used in the medical area, into a linear accelerator in order to strengthen a nuclear protection. If Mongolia joins this programme, the NSO can modify its Cobalt-60 source with the progressive technology.
