Intl. Confab On National Persian Gulf Day Kicks Off In Bushehr

Bushehr, May1, IRNA – The International Conference on National Persian Gulf Day kicked off in southern city of Bushehr, attended by the state and military officials. In the conference, held on the occasion of the National Persian Gulf Day, prominent figures such as First Vice-President Mohammad-Reza Rahimi and Vice-President and Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (CHTHO), Seyed Hassan Moussavi were scheduled to address the audience. Iran designated April 30 as the National Persian Gulf Day to highlight the fact that the waterway has been referred to by historians and ancient texts as 'Persian' since the Achaemenid Empire was established in what is now modern day Iran. In July 2010, archeological excavations in the Iranian port city of Siraf yielded new evidence confirming the antiquity of the Persian Gulf title./end
