Iran-Armenia Keen On Expansion Of Ties

Tehran, May 1, IRNA – Majlis (Parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said that in recent years the parliaments of Iran and Armenia have backed the expansion of friendly ties between both nations. Larijani made the remarks in a meeting with the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian in Tehran on Sunday. “The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is improving relations with the regional countries and settling disputes within the framework of negotiation and mutual understanding,” Larijani added. Referring to joint economic projects as a step forward in consolidation of economic ties between the two countries, Larijani noted that strengthening the communication between the private sectors of both countries can help the atmosphere of economic cooperation which will benefit both the nations. He expressed optimism from the trend of progress between relations of two countries in different areas, adding that Iran and Armenia have numerous opportunities for consolidation of inter alia relations. Nalbandian, for his part, said that the prospect of Iran-Armenia ties is very bright. Nalbandian said that parliaments of both countries play an important role in consolidation of ties between two countries. “Armenia pays heed to establishment of friendly ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in all areas,” the Armenian foreign minister added. Nalbandian underscored the role of trade and economic cooperation between Iran and Armenia for enhancement of bilateral ties./end
