Iran Condemns Deadly Terrorist Acts In Iraq

Tehran, April 21, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African Affairs here Friday condemned terrorists’ moves in some parts of Iraq, including Baghdad and Kazemain, leading to martyrdom and wounding of some people, including some Iranian pilgrims of infallible imams (P). According to IRNA, the information website of the IRI Foreign Ministry further quotes Hossein Amir-Abdollahian as referring to the might of the Iraqi government, led by respected Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, and the competent police force and security apparatus of that country for restoration of security in their country. Amir-Abdollahian adds, “The wise, patient, and brave Iraqi nation are well aware of the real intentions of the designers of these inhumane terrorist acts.” The Iranian deputy foreign minister has meanwhile warned the designers of the terrorist acts and their notorious supporters that these moves are merely at the service of the enemies of the entire regional countries. The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister in Arab and African Affairs adds, “Iraq has left behind tougher days than these quite successfully, but I feel obliged to reiterate that the security of Iraq also plays a decisive role in ensuring the security of the entire region.” Iraq's al-Qaida branch is promising a wave of bombings that wrecked havoc across Baghdad and other cities Thursday is just the beginning. A statement issued by the Islamic State of Iraq and posted on militant websites Friday said the group was targeting security forces in retaliation for what it called an anti-Sunni campaign. Iraqi officials said Thursday’s attacks – a mix of car bombs and roadside bombs – killed at least 35 people and wounded more than 100. In and near Baghdad, multiple blasts killed at least 15 people, mostly in Shi'a areas. One of the attacks hit the convoy of the country's health minister, who was not hurt. Bombings in Kirkuk killed nine people, while deadly blasts also hit the cities of Samarra, Taji and Ramadi. Near simultaneous suicide attacks and car bombings in eight cities last month killed at least 46 people and wounded more than 200 others. Those attacks came days before Baghdad hosted an Arab League summit./end
