L.BOLD MEETS AMBASSADORS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Bold received on Tuesday Gregory Goldhawk, the Ambassador of Canada; Piper Anne Wind Campbell, the U.S Ambassador; Takenori Shimizu, the Ambassador of Japan; Pierson, the Vice chairman of the UK Embassy in Mongolia; and David Lawson, the General Consul of Australia in Mongolia.
In explaining the objective of their meeting with the Foreign Minister, the diplomats expressed their concern over unclear circumstances in the environment of external investment of Mongolia created before and after the parliamentary election. This situation makes Mongolia's foreign partners confused and hesitated, if this will last, the investors' confidence in Mongolia might be lost, they said and considered that it is vital to exchange necessary information on it. They expressed willingness to cooperate in having the foreign investors understand the new cabinet's actions in a right way.
Saying the "Oyu tolgoi" project's investment contract is the best exemplary document established between Mongolia and foreign investors, the diplomats said the investors understand that the OT contract will be altered due to a clause in the 2013 state budget law about increasing revenue from the OT project by amending some clauses of the investment contract agreed by the sides. They said it will cause a doubt about the legal environment of Mongolia's external investment sector.
The Foreign Minister said the external investments should play an important role in the economic development of Mongolia and promised to convey the diplomats' positions and proposals to the government.
