Malaysia Does Not Interfere In Sri Lanka, Tibet Internal Conflicts

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia reiterated its stand of not to interfere in Sri Lanka's internal conflict involving human rights violations. Deputy Foreign Minister A. Kohilan Pillay said Malaysia viewed the conflict as an internal issue, hence it should be resolved by Sri Lanka itself. "The government will continue with bilateral relations with Sri Lanka in the areas of economy, investment and human capital development," he said in his winding-up speech for the debate on the Supply Bill 2012 at the Committee level in the Lower House of Parliament on Thursday. Kohilan Pillay said the same stand was made on the issue of human rights violations in Tibet as Malaysia regarded Tibet as part of China and that the issue should be resolved domestically by China. "The Malaysian government will not interfere in China's internal affairs, just like China will not interfere in our internal affairs," he said. On Malaysia's participation in the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, Kohilan Pillay said the government was in the process of studying the related domestic laws, "This includes the possibility of amending certain domestic laws so that the statute can be implemented in this country," he said. Malaysia had accepted the statute in March this year. -- BERNAMA Malaysia
