MINISTER OF CONSTRUCTION AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT ATTENDS THE WORLD URBAN FORUM

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The World Urban Forum 9 took place on February 7-13 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More than 5000 delegates including ministers and city mayors from more than 185 countries attended the forum to address ways of responding to challenges cities are facing and their responsibilities before global community. The Minister of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia attended the forum for the first time. In his speech, the Minister of Construction and Urban Development, Kh.Badelkhan presented measures regarding the urban development policy featuring specifics of Mongolian culture and traditions, nature and climate. His presentation on ways of effective implementation of the ‘New Urbanization’ program was highly appreciated by the UN officials. The head of the Urban Development and Land Affairs Department, B.Gunbold delivered a report on policies of the Ministry of Construction and Urban Development of Mongolia and the current conditions of Ulaanbaatar city’s ger districts and proposed creating a platform for ensuring the ‘New Urbanization’ program realization. For instance, he expressed an open position on the development of projects and programs in conformity with the high standards set by the specialized construction foundations in cooperation with highly qualified UN consultants and establishment of Institute of Urban Development to train national professionals.
