MINISTER OF ENERGY MEETS DELEGATION OF RUSSIAN BURYATIA

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ It is vital for Mongolia to keep reliability of electricity supply from Russia and to increase its size in times of the economic growth, so a high-level meeting on this issue is planned. It was said by M.Sonompil, the Minister of Energy at a meeting on Friday with a delegation headed by Mr P.L.Noskov, a deputy leader of government of the Russian Buryatia Republic and the head of Buryatia's Government and President's Office. The Minister underlined that the new cabinet of Mongolia put a goal to exploit the renewable energies of the sun, wind and water, and said Mongolia is studying an opportunity, with a financing from the World Bank, to continue a project which was launched in 1980s on constructing a hydroelectric power station in Selenge river basin. Mr Noskov appreciated Mongolia's drawing technical and economic justification of the power station and raised issues of hosting the high-level meeting on power supply and on visa exemption for the people of Mongolia and the Russian Buryatia. The delegation has arrived by invitation of Mongolia's Deputy Premier. The guests are A.S.Korenev, the deputy head of the People's Khural of Buryatia; I.Zurayev, the deputy mayor of Ulan-Ude city; B.Jargal, a head of Buryatia's Representative Office in Mongolia; and others.
