MONGOLIA’S POSITION ON UN PEACEKEEPING SOUNDED

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The deputy permanent representative of Mongolia to the UN G.Battungalag addressed on October 31 the Fourth Committee meeting about the position of the Government of Mongolia on the UN Peacekeeping operations. She noted an importance of a participation and joint efforts from all members in contemporary peace-keeping, when the peacekeepers face more complex obstacles. She assured the gathered that Mongolia wants to contribute to the international community’s efforts to ensure international peace and security. The Mongolian forces participate in six UN-mandatory operations, particularly in high-risk operations such as the peacekeeping actions in Congo, Darfur, and South Sudan, sending troops of 1,000, she mentioned. Mongolia always appreciates their deeds, she emphasized. Ms Battungalag also said hat a protection for the peacekeepers should be prioritized these days, when the conditions of operations tend to become more critical, and expressed Mongolia’s support for the initiative of the Secretary-General of the UN on developing recommendations for comprehensive assessment and evaluation of the peacekeeping operations. Here she appealed to the UN for immediate developing of the recommendations and methodologies on the situations such as domestic political conflicts and Ebola outbreak that can result in intensifying the risky conditions for peacekeeping operations. Technical assistance and financial aid for peacekeepers is important, she added and noted that the talks on improving the amount of benefits for peacekeepers should be forwarded.
