Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ Mongolia has become the 62nd official member of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF). A decision of joining Mongolia in the DCAF was made during the 28th Executive Council meeting of the organization held May 13 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Permanent Representative and Ambassador of Mongolia to the UN Office at Geneva and to other international organizations Mr V.Purevdorj delivered a speech at the Executive Council meeting. Founded in 2000 at an initiative of the Swiss government, the DCAF is an international foundation whose mission is to assist the international community in pursuing good governance and reform of the security sector. After joining Mongolia, the DCAF currently comprises 62 member states from across the globe, and four observers (Cambodia, Chile, Kazakhstan and Thailand). The Foundation Council – an assembly of all DCAF Member States – is DCAF’s supreme decision-making body. Thanks to becoming the DCAF member, opportunities opened for Mongolia to develop its defense sector under democratic principles and norms, to take advice and technical assistance from the organization for upgrading the legal environment and to participate in multilateral activities realized by the organization in these matters.
