"MONGOLIANS MUST CELEBRATE DAYS OF WINNING OLYMPIC MEDALS"

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Mongolians do not forget the historical days of winning the first Olympic medal as well as the first Olympic gold medal, so Mongolians should celebrate it every year, said N.Bayarsaikhan, a State Honored Sportsman and Olympic bronze medalist at a news conference on Friday.
Mentioning that Mongolians celebrate many events throughout a year, N.Bayarsaikhan stressed that the young generations must always remember the days of October 20 of 1968 and August 14 of 2008 when the Mongolians captured the first Olympic medals.
Apart of N.Bayarsaikhan, present at the news conference were Ch.Damdinsharav, a bronze medalist of the Mexico Olympics and People's Teacher; J.Monkhbat, a silver medalist of the Mexico Olympics and Hero of Labor; Ts.Damdin, a silver medalist of the Moscow Olympics and the vice president of the Mongolian National Olympic Committee (MonNOC); and Bayarlakh, a spouse of late T.Artag, a bronze medalist of the Mexico Olympics.
Established in 1956, the MonNOC joined the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1962, then Mongolian national team firstly participated in the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games. The very first Olympic medal was won by Ch.Damdinsharav in the freestyle wrestling in the men's 52 kg contest. A State Honored Sportsman and Hero of Labour N.Tuvshinbayar grabbed the first Olympic gold medal in the Beijing 2008 Olympics in the men's judo.
Dedicated to the 44th anniversary of winning the first Olympic medal, the Association of Mongolian Olympic Medalists intends to organize two boxing tournaments on October 25-28 and from October 31 to November 3, 2012.
